Swallow Reef (Layang Layang or Terumbu Layang Layang or Pulau Layang-Layang) is a small island part of the Spratlys (300 km northwest of Kota Kinabalu in the south China sea). It is only 2 kilometer long.
Layang Layang can only be reached by small airplane from Kota Kinabalu (1 hour flight). There is only one resort on the artificial island, so all diving is done from there. Layang Layang is open only between February and the end of October.
This is a world-class scuba destination. This small island has a dozen of outstanding dive sites all around the island. It's a very famous for its wall dives and large pelagic species, including hammerhead sharks (April-May), grey reef sharks, white-tip reef sharks... |
