The Great Barrier Reef runs along most of Queensland's coast, divided up into five zones:
- The Tropical Northern Reef (includes Cairns, Port Douglas, Fitzroy Island, etc.)
- The Coral Sea Reefs (Oceanic reefs. 300 km offshore. Includes Osprey Reef, Holmes Reef and Bougainville Reef)
- Whitsunday Region
- The Capricorn and Bunker Group: Bundaberg, Capricorn Islands (Heron Island, Lady Elliot Island), Swain Reefs
- Queensland's Southern Coast (Hervey Bay, Brisbane, The Gold Coast, The Sunshine Coast, Frazer Island...) |
