Diving in Chile is a year round activity although it more popular from September through may. Only during the real winter months there's less demand.
The water temperature changes little during the year: 11°C/52°F in winter to 14°C/57°F in summer for a big part of the country, although in the far north higher temperatures are common. This is because of the current that comes from the antarctic and moves north towards Peru.
Divers are mainly Chileans although you'll see the occasional tourist diver. There seem to be arriving more tourist who are interested in diving in Chile lately.
As for the underwater life there is quite some variety. Sea lions, seals, small sharks, rays that blend in perfectly with the rocks, sea stars, crab, local fish species, sea slugs, soft coral, flower coral and even dolphins in a couple of places. Popular dive places are Algarrobo, Quintay, Zapallar, Los Molles, Punta Choros, amongst others.
