English (Translate this text in English): Black Rock is on the site of the Sheraton Hotel. If you are staying at any of the hotels along the beach in Kaanapali take the beach walkway north until it ends at the rock outcropping (Black Rock). If driving you can pay to park in the covered lot by the Sheraton. If you didn't bring any snorkel or dive equipment you can rent it just off the beach on the Sheraton Property. Bring disposable underwater camera and watch for urchins if you get in close to the rock.

 Additional Information

English (Translate this text in English): Nice, easy access snorkeling site from the beach. First 30 meters (100ft) or so of the approx. 80m outcropping is excellent for showing kids underwater reef life. Off of the end current becomes an issue and it seemed like most of the flora and fauna was along the wall from the beach to the end. Have been there in March and July. In March snorkeling while the humpback whales were singing offshore was one of the coolest "nature" experiences I've had.

Great dive but beware! - December dive had a north to south current that was significant enough to force us to change plan and still work hard. If you don't want or can't swim hard stay behind the rock's protection on the south side.

OK, better at night - Black Rock can be a good dive if you find a ray or if you do it as a night dive. Be careful for cliff jumpers near shore and for very strong currents on the outside (which is where the better diving is located). While the outside has better marine life, on the wrong day, it can be near impossible to get back to shore. The current and visibility make this a challenging dive at times. I would caution snorkelers to stay near shore.

not that good - I would say that the visibility is almost always below 3 mts yet sometimes can reach 5 meters (hardly ever more than 5) and the biological interest is close to nothing
